ALT Linux releases Platform Five products
ALT Linux announces public availability of two products based on Platform Five: ALT Linux 5.0 Ark, a suite designed for making integrated solutions, and ALT Linux 5.0 School, a suite that is targetted at secondary and high schools.

Beta of ALT Linux 5.0 Ark released
We're happy to announce the beginning of public beta-testing of ALT Linux 5.0 Ark - a suite of distributions designed for making integrated solutions.
The suite includes 3 distributions for two hardware platforms (i586 and x86-64):
- ALT Linux 5.0 Office Server
- ALT Linux 5.0 Desktop
- ALT Linux 5.0 GNOME Desktop
Beta-version of ALT Linux School suite released
ALT Linux starts public beta-testing of ALT Linux School. This is a set of distributions that includes:
- ALT Linux 5.0.0 School Lite (XFCE)
- ALT Linux 5.0.0 School Junior (GNOME)
- ALT Linux 5.0.0 School Master (KDE4)
There are many differences compared to the Free Software Suite that was released and sent to Russian schools in 2008. One distribution is now based on GNOME desktop environment. We have added packages to all distributions for additional educational process automation (iTALC to monitor and control computer class activity, iTest to make testing pupils easier, FreeNX to access remote systems with graphical terminals, recordMyDesktop to record videos of your desktop). Several IDEs have been added, including Anjuta, Geany and Code::Blocks. VirtualBox, a system virtualization engine, and Avidemux, a video processing tool, are also in ALT Linux School, as well as many other pieces of software.
The 6th Free Software developers conference
ALT Linux and Institute of Logic announce The 6th Free Software developers conference. The conference will take place in Obninsk, Kaluga region, Russia on 27th and 28th of July, 2009.
ALT Linux participated in the Week of Russian IT in Venezuela
ALT Linux participated in the Week of Russian IT in Venezuela that took place in Caracas, on April, 19-25.
Other participants include Russian companies ABBYY, ASCON, Digital Design, PROMT, and Venezuelan ACS Systems, an official representative of Kaspersky Labs.
Each company was given a time for a speech; the last day was carried out in the format of "workshops".
ALT Linux in Brazil
ALT Linux and OpenGO (former Ventox Boundless Brasil) announce opening of a new ALT Linux sales and development office in Brazil – ALT Linux Brasil.
This move follows ALT Linux strategy to increase worldwide visibility of Sisyphus repository. ALT Linux and OpenGO intend to collaborate in development and selling of ALT Linux products in Brazil and other Latin America countries.
School Server released
Armada group and ALT Linux company are happy to release School Server distribution, based on ALT Linux OfficeServer technological base and targeted at schools and other educational institutions. This release of School Server is an extended version of a server suite for educational institutions that was developed for the government contract in the end of 2008. The distro has no version number - that signifies the beginning of a new line of distributions.
ALT Linux provides full access to PSPO's SDK
ALT Linux has published Software Development Kit which was used to create school Linux distributions.
Now any developer can rebuild, improve and use a set of Linux distributions that are deployed during PSPO pilot project in Russian schools in 2008.
